Dr. Rajbir Singh

Dr. Rajbir Singh graduated from Amritsar Medical College in 1967, did his DOMS (Diploma in Ophthalmic Medicine and Surgery) in 1969 and MS (Ophthalmology) in 1973 from the same Institute.

He was on the faculty of the Eye Department at the Medical College Amritsar for four year (1970-1974).

His first introduction to retinal surgery was with Dr. T.N. Ursekar in 1977 at KEM Hospital Bombay where he worked with him for three months. Soon after that he was awarded a Fellowship in V-R diseases by the Hearst Foundation at the University of California, San Franscisco, USA. His formal training in V-R surgery and diseases was at this Institution (UCSF) under such stalwarts as Dr. Alexander Irvine. Dr. George F. Hilton, Dr. Walter Stern and others.

The vitreo-retinal services that this Hospital is known for, was started in 1979 on his return from USA. Surgery for retinal detachment was started in 1979 and vitreous surgery started in 1983.

Besides his own presentations at various conferences he is been invited as a guest speaker at several state and national conferences and on two occasions at international conferences in the US. He was Chairman of the scientific committee POS (Punjab Ophthalmological Society) for two terms and was also President of POS for one term.

At present he is the Medical Director/Senior Consultant of this Hospital.
